If you are on maternity leave, you can claim unemployment insurance from the UIF, provided that you contributed to the fund for a period of more than four months prior to going on leave.
Before going to your nearest Department of Labour, ensure that you have all the appropriate documentation with you, including certified copies of your ID, application forms, payslips and bank statements.
You will also be required to submit a medical certificate or your baby’s birth certificate when applying.
